Search for a free NSFW AI generator and you get lists of tools with a free tier attached. The lists rarely say what that free tier still does.

That gap matters more than it did a year ago, because the largest free option in this space stopped being one.

Everything below was checked against the tools' own pages and documentation on 14 August 2026. Where a figure is not published, this says so rather than guessing.

Civitai's free credits no longer cover adult output

Civitai was the default answer here for years. Free accounts earned Buzz through engagement and daily rewards, then spent it on generation.

That ended in October 2025.

In an announcement dated 13 October 2025, Civitai put it plainly: "Blue Buzz can only be used to generate SFW content. NSFW generation will require Yellow Buzz."

Blue Buzz is the free kind, earned through engagement and rewards. Yellow Buzz is bought, tipped, or earned when other people pay to use your resources.

One caveat on that source. The announcement now carries an update dated 14 October 2025 pointing to a follow-up called "Updates to Improve the Blue Buzz Experience".

That follow-up has since moved to civitai.red and sits behind a login wall, so its detail could not be read for this article. The SFW-only rule is still the standing position on the original announcement, and the current pricing page corroborates it.

Civitai's stated reason was payment processors. It says it was given an ultimatum in January 2025 to remove NSFW entirely or lose the ability to process payments.

The split has gone further since

Mature content now sits on its own domain. The civitai.com pricing page carries the line "Unrestricted content creation has moved to civitai.red".

Follow an older mature-content link on civitai.com today and you land on an interstitial reading "Mature content now lives on civitai.red". Your account and your Yellow Buzz carry across.

On civitai.red, Yellow memberships are marked as no longer available. Buzz is bought directly instead, and that purchase page states it "Supports all content ratings".

The memberships still listed on civitai.com are Bronze at $10, Silver at $25 and Gold at $50 a month, delivering 10,000, 25,000 and 50,000 Green Buzz. Green Buzz is described as supporting safe-for-work creation.

Civitai still has a free tier. It is not a free adult generator any more.

Perchance is the one that is genuinely free

Perchance is the outlier: no account, no credits, no subscription, no watermark.

It runs on the site's own server GPUs and is funded by advertising. Its documentation is direct about the arrangement, noting that an ad appears for users who are not logged in.

On content, the plugin documentation says the model "can return NSFW/adult-themed results if prompted with NSFW/adult-themed terms", and tells generator authors to treat it like a Google image search.

There is no adult paywall because there is no wall. What you pay instead is resolution.

768 pixels is the ceiling

The plugin exposes four resolutions and no more: 768x768, 512x512, 512x768 and 768x512.

Hosted paid tools output several times that, so a Perchance image needs upscaling before it survives a full-width crop.

Concurrency is the second constraint. The same documentation states each user gets only a few concurrent server requests, so a large batch queues.

Promptchan gives a daily allowance, not a trial

Promptchan uses the model most of this category has settled on: a free daily drip of credits, called Gems.

Its pricing page lists the free plan as daily free Gems with image creation, AI chat and gallery cloning, no card required.

The daily Gem count is not stated on that page, and it is the single number a reader most wants. Treat it as unverified until you see your own balance.

Paid plans are $14.99 for Plus, $23.99 for Premium and $33.99 for Pro, monthly, carrying 100, 400 and 800 Gems. Only monthly rates are displayed.

Read the feature columns rather than the Gem counts. Plus and Premium list "High Quality", Pro lists "Max Quality", and the style and pose library widens as you climb.

Pro is also the only tier with unlimited casual generations. On the free plan, output quality and style range are capped alongside volume.

What a free tier takes instead of money

Four levers do most of the work across these tools: credit allowance, resolution cap, watermark, and queue priority.

Price lists tend to reveal them by omission. Look at what a paid tier advertises and you learn what free lacks.

SeaArt's store page is a clean example. Watermark-free video download, fast generation, private generation and parallel task slots all appear there as paid perks.

SeaArt's own daily free stamina figure is another matter. It is documented inconsistently across its pages and third-party summaries, so no current number is quoted here.

That is the standing hazard with this keyword. Free-tier figures rot faster than any other spec, and most roundups copy numbers that were true a year ago.

Check the allowance inside your own account before you plan around it.

Running it locally is the only unmetered option

If free has to mean no credits, no queue, no watermark and no content tier, the answer is your own hardware.

ComfyUI is free software under the GNU General Public License v3 and downloads from its public repository. Nothing meters it.
