Candy AI Free Tier: What You Get Without Paying

The Candy AI free tier is three things: five chat messages, one custom character, one generated image. That is the entire allowance.

None of it comes from the pricing page. candy.ai/subscriptions shows three paid durations under the heading "Choose your Plan" and carries no free column at all.

The numbers live in the operator's help centre, on a separate domain, and not one of the 13 questions in Candy AI's own on-site FAQ mentions them. Here is what that help centre says, checked 18 August 2026.

What a free Candy AI account gets

The help centre article "What can I do as a free user?" lists exactly three permissions:

• Send up to 5 messages in chat, counted across all characters rather than per character
• Create one custom AI character
• Generate one image, either from the image generator or directly inside a chat

The page carries no publication date. On 18 August 2026 it was stamped "Updated 1 year ago", which puts the last revision somewhere around August 2025.

"Across all characters" is the phrase doing the work. Five is the total, not five per companion, so browsing the roster and sending one opening line to five different characters spends the whole allowance.

The number the documentation will not give you

Whether those five messages reset is not stated on that page, or on any other public page I could find.

The absence looks deliberate rather than sloppy. Candy AI's Chat Streak page is precise when it wants to be, spelling out "at least one message per day". The free-user page carries no per-day, per-week or per-month qualifier.

Treat five as a one-time sample until Candy AI publishes otherwise.

The marketing copy is no help. The homepage invites you to "start slow with the free trial" and promises "a generous batch of tokens", attaching a number to neither. Which company the name points at is covered in our AI Candy explainer.

Tokens are the real currency, and free accounts are not given any

Chatting itself does not cost tokens. Candy AI's help centre is explicit: "Regular chatting doesn't cost tokens, but features like image generation do require a balance."

Per the tokens page, the balance pays for image generation, creating a custom AI, listening to a voice message, voice calls in beta, My Private Content packs, and converting a generated image into video.

Paid accounts receive 100 tokens a month, credited on the calendar day they first subscribed rather than on the first of the month.

The free-user page lists no token grant. Both published routes to earning tokens are shut to free accounts as well: Chat Streaks are described as "a Premium-only feature", and the referral programme states "you must be a Premium user to send invitations".

Top-ups happen at candy.ai/tokens, which returns a sign-in wall to a logged-out visitor, so per-token pricing is not publicly readable. The referral page does put a figure on it in passing: 200 tokens described as "a $20 value", or ten cents a token.

What that means for the single free image

The free allowance includes one generated image, and image generation is a token feature. So the one image is a courtesy grant rather than a balance you can spend as you please.

There is a second gap here. The Premium benefits panel on the subscriptions page lists "Generate 18+ Images" as a paid benefit, while the free-user page says only "generate one image" with no qualifier.

Premium Plus is documented, but not on the page that sells subscriptions

Something else turned up while checking the tier boundaries. The help centre carries an article titled "What is Premium Plus?", stamped "Updated 1 month ago" on 18 August 2026, describing what it calls the newest subscription tier.

Its listed benefits: 230 tokens a month, unlimited text messages, your own AI girlfriend, 18+ image generation, Live Action and live audio, a 10 percent bonus on top-ups, character early access three days before standard release, and five clone chats.

Loaded logged out on 18 August 2026, candy.ai/subscriptions shows none of that. The string "Premium Plus" does not appear anywhere on the page, and the only benefits panel there lists 100 tokens a month.

Two innocent explanations fit, a staged rollout or a tier shown only to signed-in accounts, and I cannot tell which from outside. The useful part for anyone weighing free against paid is that the public pricing page is not necessarily the full menu.

What it costs once the allowance is spent

Prices on candy.ai/subscriptions, checked 18 August 2026 and unchanged from the previous day:

• 1 month: $13.99
• 3 months: $8.99 a month, billed as $26.97
• 12 months: $3.99 a month, billed as $47.88

Two shorter cycles exist and surface only after you pick a plan and reach the payment step: $9.79 every two weeks, and $5.60 weekly. Both renew automatically at the same price and term.

Refunds are narrow. The help centre states a 24-hour window from payment, available only if 20 tokens or fewer have been used, card payments only, with locale-specific detail in section 10.4 of the terms of service.

Creating the free account

Sign-up takes an email address and a password of at least six characters, or a Google or Discord login. No card is requested at that step, verified on the live sign-up page on 18 August 2026.

That distinction matters more than it sounds. A free trial that collects card details before it starts is a subscription with a delay on it. Candy AI's is not that.

What you get is a five-message look at the chat model, one character build, and one image. That is enough to judge writing quality and the character builder.

It is not enough to judge image consistency, video, or how the model holds a conversation over hours, which is the part people actually pay for.
